We had quite a huge turnout for our regular outreach last Saturday night. This round, two groups of polytechnic students joined us, including a lecturer!
It’s wonderful to see that through outreaches, young people can gain a better understanding of homeless issues in Singapore and have a chance to interact with our homeless friends.
Before the outreach started, one new volunteer voiced his concerns about these interactions, fearing that he would not be sensitive enough in his actions and speech, for example.
This is one of the many barriers that discourage people from reaching out to the homeless they may see on their way home, or on the streets.
Through outreaches organised by Homeless Hearts, where we facilitate interactions and answer any questions volunteers may have, we truly hope to chip away at these barriers and encourage individuals to reach out to the homeless they see in their own capacities.
